CENSUS STAFF: FIELD POSITION

 

East County Rising Community Projects is the 501(c)(3) part of East County Rising PAC. Our mission is to build power through community organizing that centers underrepresented people in East Multnomah County. Part of the work that we’re doing is ensuring that the Census is equitable and complete in collaboration with the #WeCountOregon team. 

 

East County Rising is one of 11 organizations participating in a statewide and community-led #WeCountOregon campaign that is focused on engaging Oregon's hard-to-count communities: people of color, immigrants, rural people, children under 5, and renters. #WeCountOregon is working to ensure that the Census is equitable, fair, and just and that every Oregonian is counted in the 2020 US Census.

 

Job Description

East County Rising is seeking motivated and community-driven field staff to join the #WeCountOregon campaign. Under the direction of the Census Equity Manager, field staff will carry out a grassroots effort to Get-Out-The-Count. This is a part-time, temporary position that involves engaging with our communities in East County and highlighting the importance of Census participation. 

 

Job Duties include:

  • Phone banking

  • Text banking

  • Door knocking

  • Data entry, reporting, and tracking progress on fieldwork

  • Attending daily briefs with the campaign team

  • Turning in time-sheets and other administrative materials according to deadlines

 

Field team staff must be available to work up to 20-22 hours a week on the following schedule (exact schedule may vary):

 

  • Tuesday: 4:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.

  • Wednesday: 4:30 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.

  • Thursday: 4:30 P.M.. - 8:30 P.M.

  • Saturday: 10:00 A.M. - 7:30 P.M.

 

Lunch or dinner will be provided each work day.

 

Requirements:

  • Ability to work 4-8 hours per day, on scheduled workdays

  • Ability to show up on time

  • Ability to attend trainings before the campaign starts

  • Positive, can-do attitude

  • Basic computer skills required

  • Drug and alcohol-free during work hours

  • Ability to work well in a team setting

  • Ability to take direction and feedback

  • Goal-oriented

  • Some local travel required

 

Preferences:

  • Bilingual skills (Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Somali and any top additional languages spoken in East Multnomah County)

  • Previous campaign experience 

  • Familiarity with East Multnomah County geography and communities

 

Additional Information:

  • Supervisor: Census Equity Manager

  • Location: 18210 E Burnside Street, Portland, OR, 97233, with some work happening throughout East Multnomah County.

  • Duration: Temporary position, runs from April 4th, 2020 until July 31st, 2020. Campaign end date is subject to change.

  • Part-time (20-22 hours/week). Field staff will work 2-3 days a week.  The majority of the shifts will be during evenings and weekends. 

  • Compensation: Pay is $17 per hour.  $18 per hour for bilingual speakers.

  • Lunch or dinner will be provided each workday.
